Shirley Anne was born in Tacoma, WA. She graduated from Queen Anne High School in Seattle and attended the University of Washington where she was a member of Phi Mu. She later earned a BA from the University of Hawaii with a degree in Polynesian History. On January 21, 1950, Shirley Anne wed Gaylord Schaudies. They raised two daughters, Sharon and Theresa.
Shirley Anne was an active member of the Ladies of the Shrine and was on the Seabeck Christian Conference Center Board of trustees for 10 years. She was also Regional Coordinator of the Association for Research and Enlightenment for a number of years. With her husband Gaylord and daughter Theresa, Shirley Anne owned and operated Gaylord House Bed and Breakfast in Everett for eight years. Gaylord House is still in operation today. While under new ownership, Gaylord House still embodies Shirley Anne’s loving and nurturing spirit.
Shirley Anne, a devoted navy wife, was a Renaissance woman of many talents and interests. She excelled in the culinary arts and gardening. She was a world traveler who enjoyed exploring foreign lands and learning about various cultures. Mostly, Shirley Anne cherished the time she spent with her loved ones, playing card games, cooking meals, working in her garden, cheering on her favorite sports teams or simply passing the time engaged in conversation.
